Nokia 9 vs Nokia 8.3

Another day another Nokia 8.3 video! This time I compare the main camera of the Nokia 8.3 5G against the current best imaging solution from Nokia mobile; the Nokia 9 PureView. As you all should know by now, both phones offering completely different approaches to capturing the perfect image. In the case of the Nokia 9 PureView, it combines the images captured from 5 almost identical 12-megapixel cameras with an aperture of f/1.8 in order to capture more light (in theory), better dynamic range, better bokeh, and better details, especially in RAW format. Naturally, this phone is the first and sadly the last phone to implement light.co’s imaging technology. For the Nokia 8.3 5G, it has a more traditional large 64-megapixel f/1.89 camera with pixel binning technology in order to capture 16-megapixel images. In daylight, the Nokia 9 PureView still captures some of the most realistic, well-balanced images around, edging out the Nokia 8.3. But when it comes to resolved details, the Nokia 8.3 is the clear winner. Its images are sharper without being too oversharpened, a benefit of the larger camera sensor.
In lowlight from a point and shoot perspective, the Nokia 8.3 is steps above the 9 PureView. It has a built-in night mode that continues to impress in most situations, while the Nokia 9’s auto images in low light are quite bad. You can drastically improve the output from the Nokia 9 with manual mode, but you will not be able to capture the same balanced images as the Nokia 8.3.
The 8.3 doesn’t suffer from the software shortfalls of the Nokia 9’s camera app. It captures images very quickly and in quick succession, and it’s a lot more reliable.
I didn’t cover the RAW aspect in this video but plan on doing so in detail in the future.
