Aubameyang made history when he stepped up to convert a spot-kick after Paul Pogba conceded the penalty following a trip on Hector Bellerin in the area.
The penalty saw Aubameyang become the
first Arsenal player to convert one at the Theatre of Dreams after two previous
attempts.
Robin van Persie and Gilberto Silva both had their efforts from the spot fail to hit the target in 2011 and 2006 respectively.
Aubameyang's goal during the fixture was
his second of the season, ending his goal drought of five matches in the
league.
His first of the new campaign was against
newly promoted side Fulham during their opening fixture at Craven Cottage. The
31-year-old striker later took to Instagram to describe his side's performance
as "solid."
"Solid yeah!!!! That’s my team," he posted.
Sunday's victory was also Gunners' first
away at United in a top-flight match since 2006 which also ended by a similar
scoreline.
The result saw the Red Devils drop to 15th on the charts after a poor start to the campaign, with Arsenal currently sitting ninth with 12 points
