Eminem Endorses Biden And Licenses ‘Lose Yourself’ For A Campaign Ad, In A First For The Rapper
On Monday, Eminem posted a dramatic 45-second, black-and-white ad for the Biden campaign called One Opportunity, referencing a line from his 2002 hit Lose Yourself from the 8 Mile soundtrack that plays throughout the spot.
According to the Detroit Free Press, it’s the first time that the rapper, known for being protective of his discography, has licensed a track to be used as part of a political campaign.
Biden posted the video on Twitter, quoting the song’s lyrics: “We have one shot. One opportunity. One moment.”
Biden has enjoyed a steady polling lead in Michigan, where Eminem hails from, after Trump won the state by a narrow margin in 2016.
Eminem joins fellow musician Beyoncé in posting a last-minute Biden endorsement to social media Monday.
It may be the first time Eminem has lent his tunes to a campaign ad, but he’s been outspoken when it comes to politics for years. He took President George W. Bush to task in a 2004 track called Mosh over sending U.S. troops to Iraq. He slammed President Donald Trump after his election during a 2018 interview with Billboard magazine, saying “a f***ing turd would have been better as a president.”
